Experience

Automation Engineer Intern

Gerdau Long Steel

Jun 2026 - Aug 2026

During my internship with Gerdau, I worked in the melt shop supporting industrial automation and equipment monitoring systems used throughout steel production. I collaborated with process engineers and technicians to troubleshoot and develop solutions for production needs.

One of my main projects involved developing Human-Machine Interfaces to monitor both back-pressure feedback and flow rate conditions of furnace burners in real time. I also supported the integration of a level sensor with a GE PLC for a pneumatic sand hopper refill system, troubleshooting signal scaling, control logic, and field operation to help reduce Electric Arc Furnace downtime by 15%.

I developed Python scripts to automate back-pressure analysis for JetBox burners, converting raw exports from data acquisition software into standardized weekly trend tables. This enabled faster comparison of operating conditions across furnace burners and supported performance monitoring, fault detection, and the development of threshold based alarms.

First Choice South Home Health Care

May 2024 - Aug 2024

During my internship, I developed a full-stack web application to centralize company expense data and replace manual spreadsheet routines used for financial tracking.

I built the application using React and TypeScript with a NoSQL database, developing interfaces for entering, organizing, filtering, and reviewing transaction data while maintaining a streamlined workflow for company staff.

I also automated expenditure filtering and aggregation, reducing the time required to analyze transaction data by approximately 75% and making recurring expense reporting significantly more efficient.
